Tigerair Australia

Tigerair Australia, before Tiger Airways Australia, is an Australian low-cost airline headquartered in Melbourne and based on the Melbourne Airport. It is located as its sister company Tigerair from Singapore, 100 % owned by Holding Tiger Aviation Group.

History

Since 1996, the Australian Aviation Authority approved for domestic air transport, airlines that are 100 % foreign owned. This was initially only for New Zealand airlines, but were then disarmed and for the first time in 2007 by Virgin Blue - taken advantage of - today's Virgin Australia. In Australian airlines that operate internationally, still valid, an Australian share of 49 %.

On 16 March 2007 Tigerair Australia was founded under the name of Tiger Airways Australia in the Northern Territories. The official acceptance flights were made on 20 November 2007 with flights from Melbourne to Sunshine Coast and Launceton. November 22, 2007 Tiger Airways received the required flight certificates. The first regular flight took place on 23 November 2007 from Melbourne to Gold Coast. Tiger Airways Australia is marketed as Tiger Airways Tiger Aviation Group and flew under the same colors. A second hub is on the Adelaide Airport since March 1, 2009.

Early July 2011, withdrew from the Australian aviation authority CASA of Tiger Airways Australia due to safety concerns temporary approval. After the CASA had found deficiencies in maintenance and training program of the airline in March, the airline a call for improvement was not immediately followed adequately. There were also other security-related incidents such as hazardous approaches to other aircraft and erroneous entries in an onboard computer. 10 August 2011 could be resumed after five weeks of operation, but it may until further notice only 18 flights will be carried out on the day.

In August 2011, also the closure of the base in Adelaide was announced.

In July 2013 Tiger Airways Australia was renamed Tigerair Australia.

Destinations

Tigerair Australia mostly through Melbourne numerous destinations within Australia, including Alice Springs, Canberra, Perth and Sydney and currently is the only international destination Singapore where Tigerair, with the close cooperation exists, its base has.
