Tochiazuma Daisuke

Tochiazuma Daisuke, Japanese栃 东 大 裕, own Daisuke Shiga (志 贺 太 佑, born November 9, 1976 in Adachi, Tokyo Prefecture) is a former Japanese sumo wrestler, and holds the second highest rank ozeki.

Tochiazuma is the youngest son of Tamanoi Tomoyori, who himself fought as sekiwake Tochiazuma, won the tournament in January 1972 and had founded after the end of his time wrestler the " stable " Tamanoi Beya. It is in this also Tochiazuma was formed. In 1994, he began his rise in the Jonokuchi Division and in 1996 was juryo and thus was sekitori. On this occasion he took, which was previously competed under his birth name, the old ring his father's name on. At this time he had won in each of the leagues run through a tournament.

In 1997 Tochiazuma rose to the sanyaku ranks and was listed for most of the intervening years as sekiwake, even though he repeatedly experienced injury-related setbacks. In January 2002, he stood first in the rank of ozeki and was promptly decide the tournament itself - coincidentally exactly 30 years after the tournament victory of his father. His next result reached but not sufficient for promotion to yokozuna. It was only in November 2003 Tochiazuma could win another tournament in the Makuuchi division, but also that he could add no connection success. Even his tournament victory in the New Year Tournament 2006, he could not repeat in the next tournament.

Noteworthy is the persistence Tochiazumas with which he defended his ozeki rank: Twice he has since been downgraded to sekiwake after he could not compete because of a shoulder or knee injury, and twice he was able to rise again. Since the introduction of the corresponding rule in 1969 Tochiazuma is the only wrestler who made this. The reason for the last demotion, a fracture of the scapula he suffered in November 2004 in the fight against Kokkai, initially seemed to be the end of Tochiazumas career mean. However, contrary to the pronouncements of his Heya he entered as early as next January the ring again and achieved a better result than he would have needed calculation.

For health reasons Tochiazuma announced on 7 May 2007 his resignation. He, in 2009, when his father and head of the house Tamanoi retired, took over the Tamanoi Beya - but remained the Kyokai until then below its previous Shikona.

An excellent technician Tochiazuma won seven Gino shō ( awards for outstanding art). In addition, he received two Kanto shō for special fighting spirit and three shuku - shō for special services.
