Todd Rundgren

Todd Rundgren Harry ( born June 22, 1948 in Upper Darby, Philadelphia ) is an American musician, songwriter and music producer. He is the founder of the bands Nazz and Utopia.

Life

With his first band Nazz Rundgren had only mediocre success. Only in the late 1960s drew their first single into the American Top 100. At this time, Rundgren had already left the group but to complete a solo contract with the record label Warner Music. He got in the studio complete freedom and thus produced his first project Runt. As he got along very well with the studio technology, he was subsequently offered to work as a music producer.

Rundgren produced albums for Badfinger, Paul Butterfield, Grand Funk Railroad, Hall & Oates, Meat Loaf, New York Dolls, Patti Smith, Jim Steinman, The Band, The Tubes, XTC and many more. His biggest success as a music producer was the production of Meat Loaf album Bat out of Hell, which is still regarded as one of the most successful music albums in the history of rock music. His double album, released in 1972 Anything / Something was chosen of all time in a poll by the music magazine Rolling Stone ranked 172 of the best albums.

For a variety of studio contacts turned out Rundgren 1974, a studio musician, band together, the group Utopia. With up to three synthesizers, two drummers and several guitarists he realized his progressive rock project. What remained from that time keyboardist Roger Powell, who together worked with David Bowie, drummer Willie Wilcox and bassist Kasim Sulton. With this Utopia line-up different albums were recorded, which were commercially successful to some extent.

In the years 1978-1985 Rundgren created one after another four studio albums that have been recorded complete without the support of other musicians, including Hermit of Mink Hollow, with whom he had success in 1978. A song on the album titled Can We Still Be Friends was covered later, among others, Rod Stewart, Robert Palmer and Mandy Moore.

A special feature was published in 1993 Rundgren interactive CD No World Order. On it over 1000 sound bytes were contained, which could be assembled from the handset itself to produce songs. Rundgren toured from radio station to radio station by the U.S. to mix his pieces live and then left to the respective transmitter to broadcast.

1995 and 1996 Rundgren moderated a weekly radio program entitled The Difference with Todd Rundgren, which was acquired by 35 radio stations in the United States.

In 2005 he founded together with former members of the band The Cars, The New Cars group.

Private life

From 1972 to 1977 Todd Rundgren was associated with the Playboy Playmate Bebe Buell. After Bebe Buell had separated from him and was expecting a child of Steven Tyler, she turned back to Todd Rundgren, who was at this time as the official father of Liv Tyler. It was only in late childhood learned Liv Tyler, who was her real father.

Then Todd Rundgren lived with Karen Darvin, Bruce Springsteen's former girlfriend, together with whom he has two sons. He currently lives in Hawaii with his wife Michele and their son.
