Tom Stonier

Tom ' Ted ' Stonier ( born April 29, 1927 in Hamburg, † June 15, 1999 ) was a German biologist and information scientists.

Life

After the family Stonier 1939 had to flee to the United States from the Nazis from Germany, Tom Stonier studied at the New York Drew University biology and received his Ph.D. 1955 in Yale. He worked as a research assistant at Rockefeller University in 1962 and added to the Faculty of Biology of Manhattan College, New York.

His first book, Nuclear Disaster, looked at the potential impact on biology and environment, when a 20 - megaton would ( TNT equivalent ) hydrogen bomb dropped on Manhattan. The book was widely attention and gave Stonier a reputation as a peace researcher. In 1973 he went to Bradford University in the UK, where he founded the School of Peace Studies. In 1975 he became professor of science and society in Bradford. He specialized in the following years on the interaction of science, technology and society.
