Tomas Behrend

Tomas Ugo Behrend ( born December 12, 1974 in Porto Alegre, Brazil ) is a retired German -Brazilian tennis player.

Tennis career

Behrend spent his childhood in Brazil. With the tennis he began at the age of five years. In October 1993 he moved to Germany and played from 1994 first satellite tournaments.

2003 Behrend was called by team captain Patrik Kuhnen in the German Davis Cup team. To kick off the match against Belarus, he played his only match in the Davis Cup. After five sets he lost against the Belarusians Max Mirny. After a 2:3 defeat Germany got off from the world group.

In the same year, on 3 October 2005, Behrend reached number 74 its best ranking in the tennis world rankings.

In the following years Behrend moved more and more onto the double, where he had considerable success especially in Challenger tournaments. Just before he officially ended his career at the Lambertz Open Aachen in 2007, he had reached rank 43 its highest ranking in the double world rankings. His last game he played tentatively on November 2, 2007, when he was beaten to the double Mischa Zverev and Dominik Meffert on the side of Christopher Kas in the semifinals of the Lambertz Open.

At the French Open in Paris 2008 Behrend came shortly back into the professional game to compete at the side of the Czechs Tomas Cibulec in doubles. Already in the first round failed both on the Argentine José Acasuso and Sebastian Prieto pairing.
