Tomášikovo

Tomášikovo ( until 1948 slovak " Tallós "; Hungarian Tallós ) is a municipality in western Slovakia with 1611 inhabitants ( 31 December 2011), which belongs to Okres Galanta, a part of the Trnavský kraj.

Geography

The municipality is located in the Slovak Danube lowlands to an arm of the river Čierna voda called Stara Čierna voda and near the Little Danube. The center is located at an altitude of 114 m nm and is 14 kilometers away from Dunajská Streda, and 16 kilometers from Galanta away.

History

Colonization of today's municipal territory has been around since the Middle Stone Age. Nevertheless, the place is mentioned relatively late and although in 1646 and belonged to the estate of Schintau.

Until 1918, belonged to the county located in the Bratislava city of the Kingdom of Hungary and was then Czechoslovakia or Slovakia today. 1938-45 he was on the basis of the First Vienna Award once again part of Hungary.

In order to repay the Hungarian -sounding name, the town was renamed in 1948 in honor of Samo Tomášik in Tomášikovo.

Population

According to the 2011 census lived in Tomášikovo 1,601 inhabitants, of whom 1,351 Magyars, 188 Slovaks, 30 Roma, seven Czechs and Moravians two; a resident had a different ethnic group. 22 inhabitants did not know. 1,474 inhabitants belonged to the Roman Catholic Church, each 17 inhabitants to the Evangelical Church AB and the Reformed Church, two residents for evangelistic church and a population of Czechoslovak- Hussite Church. 70 residents were non-denominational and 20 inhabitants, the denomination is not determined.
