Tony Kakko

Tony Kakko ( born May 16, 1975 in Kemi, Finland) is a singer and keyboard player.

Kakko joined in early 1996 by the Finnish power metal band Sonata Arctica, which was founded as " Tricky Beans" in late 1995. He formerly played keyboards in a band and also contributed humppa background vocals on. In the early years they played the pop / rock music similar and mainly cover versions, including Megadeth or the Spin Doctors. Later, when the band under the name "Sonata Arctica " released her first album, you could see some parallels to the music of the Finnish power metal band Stratovarius. However, they soon tried to find their own style. With few exceptions, most of the songs and lyrics of the band of Kakko were written. What is striking is his affinity for wolves, for he writes a lot of songs that deal with wolves. Since Kakko is good friends with Tuomas Holopainen of Nightwish, he was involved in some songs by Nightwish for the backing vocals. As Nightwish were planning a re-recording of their song Astral Romance, Kakko jumped - to find the song on the EP Over the Hills and Far Away. During the recordings of Nightwish's first live DVD Kakko was a guest vocalist and sang in a duet with Tarja Turunen the song Beauty and the Beast. He is, however, also be heard every now and then with other bands as a guest vocalist ( and backing vocalist ).

Kakko is a member of the Finnish heavy metal supergroup Northern Kings.

Earlier in his career he was, especially in the vocals, clearly influenced by Timo Kotipelto, as you can on Ecliptica, the debut album of Sonata Arctica, hear.
