The airfield Tortoli -Arbatax (Italian: Aeroporto di Tortoli -Arbatax ) is located on Sardinia's east coast, 2 km east of Tortoli and 2 km west of the port town of Arbatax.

Infrastructure

The airfield has a 1450 -meter-long paved runway and landing strip that runs from northwest to southeast (12 /30). There is no parallel to the runway taxiways. On the north-west, at the landing threshold 12, a small advance is with a terminal building and a parking lot. The landing threshold of runway 30 is only a few meters from the beach, fly over the landing planes in a few meters. For this reason, Tortoli -Arbatax is often compared to the Princess Juliana airport on the Caribbean island of St. Martin, where similar approaches are spectacular to see.

History

In the 1960s, a contractor built the airfield with a 1190 -meter grass runway, which was paved in 1975. With the construction of a small terminals of seasonal charter, who coined the airfield until 2010 began. It was especially in the summer months, numerous connections to northern Italy and to some European countries. Various regional airlines flew the airfield with aircraft such as the BAe 146, Bombardier Q400 or ATR 72. 2010, the start and runway was extended to 1450 m and the terminal modernized. Since 2011, no more operations will take place in Tortoli -Arbatax. Reactivation is planned.

Others

  • A few kilometers south of the airfield Tortoli -Arbatax begins the military restricted area Salto di Quirra. In Perdasdefogu is a small airfield, which can be used under certain conditions of general aviation.
  • The nearest major airports are located in Cagliari in the south of the island, and in Olbia in the north. Both are around 150 km away.
