Tragic Kingdom is the third studio album by American ska group No Doubt. It was released in October 1995 Trauma Records / Interscope. The album reached number one on the Billboard 200, number two in Germany and number 22 in the Billboard charts decades of the 1990s. Between 1995 and 1998 seven singles were released, including Just a Girl and Do not Speak. Both pieces reached high chart positions, the ballad Do not Speak made it to number one on the Billboard Hot 100
Formation and style
The album was recorded in eleven studios in the greater Los Angeles from 1993 to 1995. For the production of Matthew Wilder was responsible. The album was mixed by Paul Palmer. Wilder made for an accessible production and thus emphasized the bonds No Doubts of post grunge and new wave, as well as the Third Wave of Ska. In addition to the usual instruments brass passages are used in several songs.
Originally the label Interscope rejected much of the material from Tragic Kingdom, due to the limited success of the debut album. The band had therefore taken her next album, The Beacon Street Collection alone. During the recording sessions for the band Tragic Kingdom Paul Palmer had met who had worked for Bush. This first mixed from Just a Girl and then the rest of the album and the band recorded for his label, Trauma Records. As The Beacon Street Collection but had sold the meantime, despite limited availability in 100,000 times, the interest of Interscope was aroused again and the label finally also released Tragic Kingdom.
Reception
The album was nominated Album at the Grammy Awards in 1997 for Best New Artist and Best Rock. It was at least 15 million copies sold and received by the RIAA Diamond status in the United States and Canada, triple platinum in Australia and platinum in the UK. The magazine Rolling Stone took it on the 441st place on its list of the 500 best albums.
