Tramlink

Tramlink ( until recently known under the name Croydon Tramlink ) is a tramway system in south London, which is operated by the transport company Transport for London. The network is 28 km long, was opened in May 2000, is located mainly in Croydon and offers many transfer connections to rail and underground lines. In the center of Croydon the trams run on a single track road flush loop; the vast majority of the network is, however, of former or existing railway lines.

Lines

Since opening in May 2000, there were the following three lines:

  • Line 1: Wimbledon - Mitcham Junction - West Croydon - East Croydon - Elmers End
  • Line 2: West Croydon - East Croydon - Beckenham Junction
  • Line 3: West Croydon - East Croydon - New Addington

On 23 July 2006, the network was restructured: The route to Wimbledon is served instead of trains on Line 1 from Elmers End of trains of Line 3 from New Addington. This now leads to the following network:

  • Line 1: West Croydon - East Croydon - Elmers End
  • Line 2: West Croydon - East Croydon - Beckenham Junction
  • Line 3: Wimbledon - Mitcham Junction - West Croydon - East Croydon - New Addington

Rolling stock

CR4000

Tramlink has 24 articulated low-floor vehicles, which were built by Bombardier in Vienna. The vehicles of the CR4000 series based on the model K4000 Cologne Stadtbahn and differ from them only in a few details. For this vehicle family Bombardier Flexity Swift now uses the term. The vehicles are 30.1 meters long and 2.65 meters wide, have 70 seats and a capacity of 200 passengers. The floor height is 40 cm, 35 cm in the boarding area.

Variobahn

After the private operator Tram Track Croydon Ltd.. was taken over in 2008 by Transport for London and was passed into public ownership, procurement of additional vehicles was announced to increase the provision in 2011. The Swiss manufacturer Stadler Rail delivered since January 2012 six five -piece Vario tracks to London. They correspond to the located at the city railway mountains in emergency vehicles. The cars are 32.37 meters long and 2.65 meters wide, have 72 seats ( and 12 folding seats ) and a capacity of 206 passengers. The floor height is 38.5 inches, the car's interior is free of steps. Planning

By the end of 2012, the section between Mitcham Mitcham Junction and will be expanded to double track, so that traveling in quarter-hour clock line can be extended over 4 Therapia Lane addition to Wimbledon.

There are plans for a number of extensions of the network, such as to Crystal Palace, Purley, Streatham, Sutton and Tooting. To illustrate the future expansion of the network, the name of Croydon Tramlink Tramlink in has changed.
