Trams in Naples

The tram Naples is the tram system in the Italian city of Naples and is operated by the local transport company Azienda Napoletana Mobilità ( ANM). The network is about twelve kilometers long and is served by three lines:

History

The tram Naples in 1875 opened as a horse tram and electrified later. In 1929, the city of Naples lines, vehicles and infrastructure took over from the various predecessor companies and led them along in the company Azienda Tranviaria Napoli ( ATCN ), which had been founded in 1918.

A short time later, in December 1930, the company was at the corporation duck Autonomo Volturno, a local power company, passed in the public sector. In 1937, the EAV concessionaire operation, but due to various difficulties, the EAV announced on January 1, 1941 back the concession and the community led the tram as a proper operation.

Azienda Tranvie Autofilovie Napoli ( ATAN ) was founded in 1947, which took over the municipal trams of duck Autonomo Volturno.

As in many Italian cities, the tram network was drastically reduced during the years 1952 to 1954 in favor of trolleybus and bus.

The experiments, the remaining trunk network - even without the route Barri - Borelli ( which had been destroyed by the Irpinia Earthquake of 1980) further lead to no result. This is in particular planned for the FIFA World Cup 1990 project of the Linea Tranviaria Rapida ( " fast tram "), which among other things for the decommissioning of the entire route to Fuorigrotta led ( Via Cumana - Via Giambattista Marino to the local depot - Via Lepanto ).

The Linea Rapida Tranviaria was never completed due to technical problems. As a quick fix some old cars were repainted in blue and white colors and called the sea line. They resembled the modern - never went into operation - tramcars the fast tram.

Instead, there were further cuts to the tram network. According to the local transport plan of 1997, the tram should not go out on the town hall square. 1998 was shut down due to the protests of many traders, the portion from Piazzale Tecchio by Bagnoli, 2000 followed the route from Piazza Vittoria to Piazzale Tecchio.

Only after the turn of the millennium a program to strengthen the tram started: 2004 the new vehicle AnsaldoBreda Sirio was presented, the historic terminal Poggio Reale was put into operation again, thanks to the redesign of the route between the Emiciclo Poggio Reale and Piazza Nazionale, where the tram a cycle ride made around the square. The turning circle is no longer in operation, but to be reactivated. Another important innovation (even if only half done ) relates to the route on the Riviera di Chiaia.

Nonetheless, there are numerous obstacles on the way to a normal tram service, from the eternal urban construction.

Since 5 May 2011 is a temporary terminal at Via Cristoforo Colombo off the port in operation, thanks to which it was possible, the lines 1 and 4 to resuming operations that were shut down due to construction of the underground station Rathaus. Because of this construction is impossible for a traffic tram to Piazza Vittoria.

Construction work

The construction work for the remaining part of the route along the Riviera di Chiaia are interrupted. Reason, the construction of the stops Arco Mirelli and San Pasquale line 6 of the metro. During the year 2012, the tracks should be connected to the already completed, so the trams can return to the Piazza Sannazaro, although the construction of the City Hall permit.

Planning

The Urban Transport Master plan envisages the creation of new lines to the quarter Ponticelli, along the Via S.Alfonso Maria dei Liguori and Piazza Carlo III, also the re-opening of the loop Mergellina and a new line on its own rail body with light rail moderate character of Piscinola after Villaricca on the route of the disused railway in 1976 Alifana bassa before, but this line does not seem to get beyond the planning stage.

After completion of construction and the implementation of these projects the tram network Naples should consist of the following lines:

Rolling stock

On this occasion the car was completely renovated in 1052 and presented in a new color scheme, the future will bear the entire fleet of Peter Witt car after they were painted more than thirty years in the ministry so-called Orange.

A third car of the same type, car 961, was acquired by a Turin company, which accounts for the preservation and restoration.
