Trat

Province

Trat ( Thai: ตราด, formerly Ban Bang Phra ) is a city ( เทศบาล เมือง ตราด ) in the Thai province of Trat. It is the capital of the district ( Amphoe ) Mueang Trat Trat province.

It is believed that the name of Trat Krat comes. Trat was in the Ayutthaya period of Krat, a tree which is used in the manufacture of brooms and surrounded.

Geography

The Trat Province is located in the eastern part of the central region of Thailand, in the extreme south-eastern Thailand near the Cambodian border. The city is located just over 300 km from the capital Bangkok.

Economic importance and

Is Trat - favored by the proximity to the Cambodian border - as a trading town of some importance. The area around Trat is rich in gemstone mines, which yield ( rubies and sapphires) is processed in the same place. Also, the cultivation is significant: durian, rambutan and mangosteen fruits are the main products.

Trat is interesting for tourists rather as a starting point to the large islands of Ko Chang and Ko Mak.

The town of Trat has 10,207 inhabitants. (2012 )

History

Trat was an important seaport already in the Kingdom of Ayutthaya.

Under King Chulalongkorn ( Rama V ) was briefly occupied by the French Trat and Chantaburi province. In a complicated exchange of territory was Trat ( and Chanthaburi ) returned on 23 March 1906, however, Thailand renounced the area around Siem Reap and Sisophon in Cambodia today.

Attractions

  • Wat Chai Mongkol - situated in the city center of Buddhist temple ( Wat ) with very nice covered chedi.
