Mueang Trat District

Amphoe Mueang Trat ( Thai: อำเภอ เมือง ตราด ) is a district ( Amphoe - administrative district ) in the southeastern province of Trat. The Trat province lies to the east of the central region of Thailand. The capital of the district and the province is also called Trat.

Geography

Neighboring districts (from west clockwise): Amphoe Laem Ngop the Khao Saming and Bo Rai Trat province, the provinces of Pursat and Koh Kong of Cambodia, Amphoe Khlong Yai and finally again in the province of Trat. To the south is the Gulf of Thailand.

History

The area of present-day county was settled in 1901 as a " Khwaeng " the Mueang Trat. The government raised the 1908 Khwaeng in Amphoe Mueang Trat status. In 1921 the county in Bang Phra was renamed after the name of the central tambon. In 1938 the name was changed again in Mueang Trat, in order to align the naming standard for main districts of provinces.

Management

The district Mueang Trat is divided into 14 subdistricts (tambon ), which in turn in 97 village communities ( Muban ) are divided.

The city ( Mueang thesaban ) Trat includes the Tambon Bang Phra, and parts of Wang Krachae. The small town ( thesaban tambon) Tha phrik Noen Sai contains the whole tambon Tha phrik and parts of Noen Sai. There are a further 12 administrative organizations ( " Tambon Administrative Organizations" - TAO, Thai: องค์การ บริหาร ส่วน ตำบล ).
