Bad Traunstein (formerly Traunstein [ in the Waldviertel ] ) is a market town with 1063 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2013 ) in the district Zwettl in Lower Austria.

Geography

Bad Traunstein is in the Waldviertel in Lower Austria about 25 km south of the district capital Zwettl. The area of ​​the municipality covers 47.45 km ², 58.8 % of the area is forested. Bad Traunstein is between 850 and 948m above sea level. The Wachtstein is the highest peak and offers a view over the whole forest area.

History

Traunstein is first mentioned in 1361. In 1371 the place is indeed called not as a market but as a parish and seat of a regional court. Records from 1580 mention the market justice and a parish school. In the core Austrian state of Lower Austria lying the place divides the eventful history of Austria.

After since 2006 with the neighboring community Ottenschlag a competition about health tourism in the Waldviertel was kindled to Traunstein was able to secure a lead in the series.
