Trevor William Hoffman ( born October 13, 1967 in Bellflower, California) is an American professional baseball player. He played from 1993 to 2008 with the San Diego Padres as a closing pitcher before he moved to the Milwaukee Brewers. Since the end of the 2010 season, he is a free agent.

Career

Hoffman was drafted in 1989 by the Cincinnati Reds shortstop, two years later, but converted to a pitcher. Until 1992, when it was hired by the Florida Marlins, he played in a minor league team the Reds in Charleston. Mid-season 1993, he joined the Padres, where he played until 2008. 2009 and 2010 he played as a relief pitcher for the Milwaukee Brewers. In the 2010 season he had to leave his post as Closer, however, to John Axford. Beginning of November 2010 gave the Brewers announced that they will be an option to extend the contract by one year not perceive; by Hoffman became a free agent.

Hoffman is second with 601 Saves the all-time best list. His 478th Save on 23 September 2006 in a home game against the Pittsburgh Pirates let him catch up with the Lee Smith erstwhile leader. Just one day later, on 24 September 2006, appropriately, at the last home game of the regular season, Trevor Hoffman went as Best Closer of all time in the history books, as he, like the day before, with the score at 2-1 in the 9th inning without major problems the victory of the Padres against the Pittsburgh Pirates secured. His 500th Save it reached on 6 June 2007; its 600 on September 7, 2010. On September 19, 2011 Mariano Rivera surpassed the record set by Hoffman with his 602nd save in the game against the Minnesota Twins.

As its distinctive trademark, the song Hell's Bells by AC / DC has established itself to be played at the bench. Hoffman's changeup pitch is one of the best in the league. Despite his blown save in the All Star Game 2006 Hoffman enjoys a reputation as one of the best Closer of all time to be, which would probably only be compared to Mariano Rivera yet. As one of the few professional baseball pitcher, he succeeds despite slowing throw speed ( well over 90 mph to about 85 mph) at the age not only to maintain its level, but even to increase again.

Private life

Hoffman is married and has three sons with his wife Tracy.
