The Tri -Cities Regional Airport is an airport in Blountville in the U.S. state of Tennessee. He served cities in the Tri -Cities region on the border between Tennessee and Virginia.

Location and Transport

The Tri -Cities Regional Airport is located in the center of the three main towns: 19 km north-west of Johnson City, 16 kilometers southeast of Kingsport and 23 kilometers southwest of Bristol.

It is located on Interstate 81, exit 63, accessible. Visitors from Johnson City reach via Interstate 26, exit 13, and U.S. Highway 75 to its destination.

History

After the airfields in Kingsport and Johnson City proved to be too small, the two cities, the city of Bristol and Sullivan County agreed to build a joint airfield in the middle of the three cities. In 1935, the Tri - Cities Airport Commission established for this purpose and later within the next two years, two start and runways, a hangar and a reception building were built. On November 5, 1937, the airport by Senator Kenneth McKellar was inaugurated as McKellar Field.
