Tricia Marwick

Tricia Marwick ( born November 5, 1953 in Cowdenbeath as Patricia Lee) is a Scottish politician and former member of the Scottish National Party ( SNP).

Before her election to the Scottish Parliament Marwick worked in public relations for the homeless organization Shelter. In the Scottish Parliament elections in 1999 Marwick stood as a candidate for the constituency of SNP Central Fife and defeated the candidate of the Labour Party, Henry McLeish, clearly. However, over the Regional Evaluation of the Mid Scotland and Fife region they gained a seat on the newly created Scottish Parliament. In the parliamentary elections in 2003 she appeared again at the constituency of Central Fife, but received by Christine May by the Labour Party only the second highest number of votes. However, they defended their mandate from the regional list. Eventually Marwick in the 2007 parliamentary elections to win the direct mandate of the constituency. As part of the constituency reform of 2011, the Central Fife constituency was dissolved and a large part went to the newly created constituency of Mid Fife and Glenrothes, for which they stood as a candidate in the parliamentary elections of 2011. They won the vote by a clear margin before the candidate of the Labour Party.

In the shadow cabinet of SNP Marwick was provided between 2001 and 2005 as Minister for Local Government, from 2005 as Minister of Housing. In 2011 she was elected as Speaker of the Parliament. Since political neutrality is expected of this position, Marwick resigned from the SNP. The choice Marwicks was controversial because, contrary to the conventions of a member of the ruling party was elected.
