Triel-sur-Seine

Curlew -sur -Seine is a commune with 11,549 inhabitants ( 1 January 2011) in the Ile- de -France region. It is the capital of the canton of the same name. Curlew -sur -Seine is a member of the Communauté de communes des deux rives de la Seine. Its inhabitants are called Triellois.

Geography

Curlew -sur -Seine is located 12 km northwest of Saint- Germain -en- Laye, 35 km northwest of Paris on the right bank of the Seine.

The neighboring municipalities clockwise are Jouy -le- Moutier and Maurecourt in the northeast, Chanteloup -les -Vignes in the east, Carrières- sous -Poissy in the south, Villennes -sur -Seine and Médan the southwest, Vernouillet and Verneuil -sur -Seine in the West and Vaux- sur -Seine in the north- west.

History

The name Triellum may refer to the existence of three islands in the Seine. 1221 Philip II declared affranchie the place to Ville.

From the end of the 18th century, gypsum was mined locally. In 1956, a 200 m long suspension bridge in operation, which replaced a 1940 bridge destroyed inches.

Twinning

Curlew -sur -Seine maintains twinning with Selig city since 1967 and Leatherhead since 2004/05.

Culture and sights

The Catholic church Saint -Martin was built from the 13th to the 16th century in the Gothic style. It is equipped with stained glass.

In curlew -sur -Seine are an observatory and the Parc aux Stars, a permanent exhibition of astronomy and space with the status of Centre de culture scientifique, technique et industrielle.
