The island was named by Otto Nordenskjold, leader of the Swedish Antarctic Expedition (1901-1903), in memory of Edward Bransfields "Trinity Land" Trinity Island. Already in 1820 explored the British explorers Bransfield the waters north of the Antarctic Peninsula and mapped it the Trinity Island.

In the north of the island rises pyramidal, her highest peak reaches 1119 m there. The southwest of the island is a flat plateau, which carries a icecap.
