Trivimi Velliste

Trivimi Velliste ( born May 4, 1947 in Tartu) is an Estonian politician. He was from 1992 to 1994 Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Estonia. Velliste part of the conservative Homeland Union ( Isamaaliit ).

After graduating from high school in 1965 in Tartu closed Trivimi Velliste 1970, his study of Germanic and Romance Philology at the University of Tartu. He then worked as a journalist.

Velliste was to the Soviet period, one of the mentors to regain the country's independence. He founded in 1987 the Society for the Protection of Estonian Monuments and spoke out in public for human rights and national self-determination. 1988 Thorolf Rafto Memorial Prize awarded him.

After regaining independence Estonia Velliste was the successor of Jaan Manitski as Estonian Foreign Minister and 1994-1998 Estonian Ambassador to the United Nations. He was a longtime member of the Estonian Parliament.

Velliste is Chairman of the Pro Patria Institute. He is married and has three children.
