The central node of the network is the Piazza Matteotti at the traffic from all lines harbor promenade Via Roma. Line 5 begins in the north of the city center, where they reached the terminal in Via Giovanni Cinquini by means of a long-range drive loop counterclockwise about Via Diego Cartello, Via Monsignor Ernesto Piovella. Then it's back on Via della Quirra, Via and Via Ciociaria Is Mirrionis. This it follows from the branching point of the loop past the university sports grounds to Public Gardens. On the Viale Luigi Merello it then goes through the city, to splits at the end of the track due to one-way channels. History

In December 1952, the line was electrified between Piazza D' Armi 5 and Piazza Amsicora. East of the station follows the former route mostly still while but did not go earlier on the Via Roma along the harbor, but by the Via Manno in the old town. Soon after followed the line 6, which ran through the narrow old streets of the Castello to Piazza Palazzo on Via Roma and past the Basilica in Bonaria to Borgo Sant'Elia where near the sea a turning loop was set up. Line 7 began on the station square Piazza Matteotti and Via Manno led over to the then developing area in the northern Via Dante Alighieri.

The early 60s, two other trolleybus lines added: Line 10 from Piazza Yenne to the beach after Calamosca followed it over long sections of the existing line 6 while the line 11 starting from di Crocicchio Sant'Avendrace ( now Piazza Trento) on via Manno and Via Garibaldi and Via Rossini, the then urban development area Largo Genari opened up.

1962 was achieved with the setting of the road train from Cagliari about Pirri, Monserrato and Selargius by Sant Elena and the resulting establishment of the overland trolleybus lines C rosso (red) and C nero ( black), the largest expansion of the network. The route took it directly from Cagliari to Selargius and Sant 'Elena, Pirri and Monseratto received a connection by bus. While the red line ran through Selargius and ended in front of the church in Sant Elena, opened up the passing of Selargius black line and the East Sant'Elenas by a route to Piazza IV Novembre.

From the early 1970s, the network then shrank rapidly. First, the lines 10 and 11 were set. By the end of the decade was followed by the lines 6 and 7, so that a residual network consisting remained from the line 5 and the two rural routes. From 1990, then the last city distance set and Quartu Sant Elena was given in 1993 leading through the center line to Piazza IV Novembre in favor of the loop guide still exist today in both directions. With only two lines that were designated IBD and CES as part of the setting, the network had reached the highest decrease.

As of 1998, the operator CTM decided again to place greater emphasis on electric vehicles. After a large portion of the overhead lines of the old system were stuck on the operating conditions, put the recovery on the section between the Piazza d' Armi and Piazza Amsicora line 5 with the inclusion of contact wires of the old 6 no major problems dar. 2000, the route to San Bartolomeo extended to the southeast, and 2002 in the northern part of the city a new loop guide. Although multiple reflections also the line 6 were available to electrify again, the old lines in 2012 were initially removed.
