Trollhättan

Trollhättan is a city and important industrial site in the west of Sweden Västra Götaland County and the historic province of Västergötland.

It is situated 75 km north of Gothenburg, 20 km south of Vänersborg and 25 km east of Uddevalla. Trollhättan is the capital of the municipality of the same name. A small portion ( 4 hectares ) of the area of the village with 57 inhabitants ( 2010) belongs to the neighboring community Vänersborg.

Economy

Well-known local companies are GKN Aerospace Sweden, National Electric Vehicle Sweden AB ( Saab Automobile ), Saab (mechanical engineering and aerospace industries ), HP, and production studios for films ( Dogville, Dancer in the Dark and Kim Novak never bathed in the lake of Galilee were created here ). The latter has given the city the jocular name " Trollywood " introduced. Furthermore, there is a significant electrochemical industry and the university Väst.

The development center and the car plant of the company Saab are on the edge of the city. There is also a car museum with many historic Saab models on the site of the former Nohab works. The electrical supply to serve the hydropower plants Hojum and Olidan to the 32 m high Trollhättan Falls of the Göta älv, Sweden wasserreichstem river. The cases bypasses the Trollhättan Canal.

In the 18th century the Swedish universal genius Christopher Polhem has tried to curb the cases, but he was unsuccessful. Only in 1800 it has been possible to complete a functioning lock staircase. About two kilometers south of the falls, the old locks can still be visited. In its vicinity are the new locks, which are used by the shipping industry. The Trollhättan Falls are today most of the time dry, as the water passes through the power plant turbines.

In summer, however, the gates are opened to the falls one to seven times a week, you can briefly experience the force of the water in the falls.

Attractions

The Church of Trollhättan, which is right next to the falls, is built in neo-Gothic style and was inaugurated in 1862. The architect was William Edelsvärd and the construction was financed by the canal company, as a gift to the community Trollhättan.

The stone box of Sjökullen ( Hällkista Sjökullen i ) is located in Upphärad in the municipality of Trollhättan.

Traffic

Trollhättan has a station on the Vänernbanan and is from Oslo, Gothenburg, Stockholm and heaps reachable by train. Furthermore, there are the airfield Trollhättan / Vänersborg scheduled flights to Stockholm -Bromma.
