Bertil Antonsson

Bertil Antonsson ( born July 19, 1921 in Trollhättan, † November 27, 2006 ) was a Swedish wrestler.

Career

Bertil Antonsson grew up in his hometown of Trollhättan and was his whole career Ringer through the " Trollhättans Athletklubb " to. In 1942, he won the Swedish youth heavyweight champion and launched a major international career as a wrestler, which lasted from 1946 to 1958. He wrestled in two styles, Greco-Roman. and freestyle. He won three World Cup and two European titles, but could not win a Olympic gold medal. 1948 and 1952 he had to be content with silver medals respectively.

His most notable victory was the information about the starting of the Soviet Union, Estonians Johannes Kotkas, who was over 10 years long unbeaten run in the World Cup 1953 in Naples before. He was awarded the Svenska Dagbladet Gold Medal - For this performance.

At the Olympic Games in 1956, he also beat the later Olympic champion Anatoly Parfenov from the USSR, but was defeated by Adelmo Bulgarelli, Italy and Wilfried Dietrich from Schiffer city and had to settle for fifth place finish.

Bertil Antonsson was a fireman in Trollhättan and for many years chairman of that Ringer clubs.
