Troy Ruttman

Troy Ruttman ( born March 11, 1930 in Mooreland, Oklahoma, USA; † 19 May 1997 Lake Havasu City, Arizona, United States) was an American race car driver.

Career

Ruttman launched 1949-1964 in 49 races in the AAA and USAC National Series where he won two.

In 1949 he started at age 19 for the first time in the 500 miles of Indianapolis, finishing in 12th place in a Wetteroth - Offenhauser. Since the minimum age was for a start in 21 years, he forged his birth certificate. When he won the Indy 500 1952 at the age of 22, he was the youngest winner in this race. This record he holds to this day. Since then, also scored for the Drivers' Championship, he was also the youngest ever winner of a Grand Prix race to undercut him Fernando Alonso during the 2003 Formula 1 season in the Formula 1 statistics. 1954 he still managed a fourth place along with Duane Carter, but in the following years he did not reach top 10 result more.
