Tukituki River

Geography

The river rises on the southern flank of the 1686 m high Ohuinga in the Ruahine Range, flows to Waipukurau in a southeasterly direction and then in a red left turn on the southeast side of the Kaokaoroa Range of northeastern direction behind Havelock North in the Hawke Bay, and thus in to lead the Pacific Ocean.

The river, normally a flow of 150 m3/sec. In minimum, brought in 1938 with around 200,000 m3/sec. its previously measured peak value. In the flood of 1893, however, the river washed the bridges in the places Tamumu and Patangata, below Waipukurau, aside and flooded the small town of Clive on the coast lying.

Use

The flow is used over its entire length for irrigation of farmland. For anglers, the river rainbow trout offers up to 1.5 kg size in the lower course even up to 4 kg. Chance also brown trout are caught.
