Devon

The Tullibody Old Bridge is a former road bridge over the Devon near the Scottish town in the unitary authority Tullibody Clackmannanshire. In 1960 the building was added to the Scottish lists of monuments in the highest category A. In addition, the bridge is protected as a Scheduled Monument since 1933.

History

The exact period of construction is not known. The actual bridge over the Devon, which forms the eastern part of the building, however, dates from the 16th century and was built before 1555. The western driveway was completed before the year 1616. Maybe the bridge on behalf of Robert Sibbald, Hofschneider the Scottish king James IV, was built. However, this is by no means assured. 1560 the building was destroyed and rebuilt. Alone in the course of the 17th century three repairs to the Tullibody Old Bridge were necessary. So the stonemason Thomas Bauchop was commissioned in 1697 with the renewal of the eastern arc. After just north of a steel bridge was built over the Devon as a substitute, the Tullibody Old Bridge was put out of service in 1920. Today, the A907 runs again a few meters north of a modern bridge. The Tullibody Old Bridge is released today exclusively for non-motorized traffic.
