Turbo-Union RB199

The RB199 is a three-shaft turbofan jet engine with afterburner and thrust reverser. It was in the 1970s by the company Turbo - Union Ltd.. , A cooperation of Rolls- Royce (40 %), MTU Aero Engines ( 40%) and Fiat Aviazione developed (20 %) for the Panavia Tornado. Since 1979 2.504 pieces were delivered.

Variants

There are four primary variants and two special versions:

  • Mk.101: Initial version, which was used for the prototypes and the first production aircraft of the tornado. The model was later replaced by the Mk.103.
  • Mk.103: Standard engine for the Tornado IDS/Recce/GR.4 (also Tornado F.2) *
  • Mk.104: Uprated version of Mk.103 for the Tornado F.3, which has been optimized for greater altitudes.
  • Mk.104D: special version for the test vehicle BAe EAP
  • Mk.104E: special version, which also contributed to the identification RB199 -122. If Typhoon 2000 (DA1 and DA2 ) installed in the first two prototypes of the Euro Fighter EF until the Eurojet EJ200 had been completed.
  • Mk.105: final version for the Tornado ECR.
