Udavské
Udavské (Hungarian Udva ) is a municipality in Prešov kraj Okres Humenné within the in Slovakia, with about 1,200 inhabitants.
The town lies at the confluence of the coming from the northeast flow Udava and coming from the north Laborec, between the mountain ranges of Ondavská highlands in the west and the Laborecká highlands in the north and east and is located seven kilometers north-east of Humenné and 38 kilometers south of Medzilaborce. The place is located one kilometers away from the provincial road 559, which connects with Humenné Medzilaborce and has a station on the railway line Michaľany - Medzilaborce mesto - Lupkow.
The village was first mentioned in 1317 as Vadna writing. For a long time the story is connected with the family Drugeth and their seat of power in Humenné. The family had built a Baroque country palace in the town in the 17th century. After the extinction of the male line of Drugeths changed both the place and the country house in its owner: the Count Csáky, Zichy and finally Szirmay. The country castle is now in a dilapidated condition.
Udavské is the birthplace of Jozef Tomko, emeritus Cardinal and Anton Špiesz, a Slovak historian.
