UEFA Women's Under-17 Championship

The UEFA U -17 European Women (English: UEFA Women's Championship UNDER17 ) is a competition for European national teams for women under 17 years. The competition, which is organized annually by UEFA, was first played in the 2007/2008 season in a tournament. In addition, the biennial competition serves as qualifiers for U -17 Women's World Cup.

History

At its meeting on May 22, 2006 in Gleneagles, north of Glasgow in Scotland, the UEFA Executive Committee approved the introduction of a U-17 Football Championship for women from the 2007/ 08 season. It was responding to the introduction of the U- 17 World Cup by FIFA. The first tournament with 4 teams took place in the period from 20 to 23 May, 2008 Nyon ( Switzerland ) at the headquarters of UEFA. Winner was Germany with a 3-0 victory over France. The following 5 tournaments were held in Nyon. Is discharged from the 2013/14 season 8 teams for the finals, which is now also held in a different host country ( Belarus: England, 2014/15: 2015/16 Iceland, 2013/14 ) to qualify.

Mode

The competition will be held in three phases. First, there are two qualifying rounds. In each qualifying round groups will be formed of four teams, one of which acts as the host nation. Within the groups, each team plays once against each other. In the first round group winners and the six best runners come on. In determining the best runners, however, only results against the group winners and the third to be considered.

In the second qualifying round four groups of four teams will be formed, which also play a tournament against each other. The four group winners reach the final tournament. In the final first two semi-finals will be played. The semi-final winners then play in the finals of the European Championship. The semifinal losers play for 3rd place before U -17 World Championships is this tournament qualifying for the World Cup.

Since the 2013/2014 season, the final round will be played with 8 players and then each in a different country.

Playing time is different from the senior area twice forty, the extension of two times ten minutes.
