Ãœmit Davala

Ümit Aydın Davala (born 30 July 1973 in Mannheim ) is a former Turkish football player and current coach.

Playing career

Association

Raised in Germany Davala began his career at VfR Mannheim. In the A- youth he came to the ASV Feudenheim. From 1992 he played at the regional tier FC Türkspor Mannheim before he moved in 1994 to Afyonspor in the second Turkish league. About İstanbulspor and Diyarbakirspor his path led to Galatasaray Istanbul, where he was from 1996 to 2001 under contract. With Galatasaray, he was four times Turkish Champions, two Cup Winners' Cup and won the 2000 UEFA Cup and the European Super Cup. Although took Gala 1999/ 00 UEFA Champions League, was there but after the group stage only third and qualified for the UEFA Cup. Such attendance the team secured only on the last day of group matches in the 3-2 win against AC Milan. Davala caused quite a penalty in injury time to win.

In 2001 Davala followed his former coach Fatih Terim to AC Milan, where he lost his place after Terim's dismissal in November. From 2002, local rivals Inter Milan Davala took them under contract, but lent him out to his former club Galatasaray. A year later Davala then went to Werder Bremen in the Bundesliga, initially on loan and then from 2004 with a fixed contract. With Werder he won the 2004 German championship and the DFB-Pokal. His debut in the Bundesliga was the defensive player on Matchday 3 of the championship season against 1 FC Kaiserslautern. This coach Thomas Schaaf him offered on a 1-0 away win in the starting lineup.

Due to a suffered in October 2005 complicated hip injury and the strong competition, they agreed on the contract as of 31 December 2005.

On 3 March 2006 Davala ended his active career.

National

For the Turkish national Davala played 62 internationals. Since he was born in Germany, he could have played for the German national football team, but by the DFB ago, there was no interest in the defender. His biggest success was the third place in the Football World Cup 2002 in Japan and South Korea. Even if Davala then shone in footballing terms, he fell against all of its so-called " mohawk " on. Coaching career

Shortly after the end of the active career Davala acquired the necessary coaching licenses. He is now in the possession of the UEFA Pro License. December 13, 2006 Davala took over the post of head coach of the Turkish U-21 national team. He then moved in early 2008 to his former employer, Galatasaray Istanbul, where he was assistant coach and interpreter of Michael Skibbe. His contract and Edwin Boekamp were finally dissolved without the knowledge Skibbe October 9, 2008.

From summer 2011 until the end of September 2013 Davala was again assistant coach at Galatasaray, this time he supported Fatih Terim.

Davala lives in Narlıdere / Izmir ( Turkey), has worked as a building contractor and operates restaurants. Prior to his coaching career, he worked as a musician and has recorded in Turkey a rap album with rather limited success. He also ran for mayor for a Turkish community.

  • Davala still plays regularly for the traditional team of Galatasaray.
  • After the 2002 World Cup Davala was to honor the city Kurudere a bridge named after him. In the city of Afyon is also located in front of the local sports center a statue with her image Davalas.
