An American in Rome ( Original title: Un americano a Roma ) is an Italian comedy film from 1954 directed by Stefano Vanzina ( Steno ), in the lead role of America crazy Italian Nando acted Alberto Sordi. .

Content

The film takes place in Rome after the war. The focus is on the Italians Fernando ( Nando ) Mericoni, the Santi Bailor calls himself and a penchant for everything that comes from the United States, the movies (his great hero is John Wayne ), sport ( he wears a baseball cap and raves by Joe DiMaggio ), the food (ketchup, popcorn, chewing gum), the language. He claims to be English, but does not bring anything into existence as gibberish. He has set up a water cooler in his room, as he had seen him at the American Embassy. His whole life is a laughable parody of the real American way of life. The ultimate goal is of course to finally go to America. Inspired by Henry Hathaway film " Fourteen Hours " (1951) he goes up to the highest wall of the Colosseum, there presents itself an inquisitive crowd, threatening to jump when his visa is granted by the U.S. Embassy.
