Under-Secretary for Ireland

The Under-Secretary for Ireland ( Under- Secretary for Ireland) or with full title Permanent Under- Secretary to the Lord Lieutenant of Ireland was the permanent head of the British administration in Ireland. The office existed in the period 1747-1774 and from 1835 until the establishment of the Irish Free State in 1922.

The most famous incumbent was Thomas Henry Burke, who was murdered along with the Chief Secretary for Ireland, Lord Frederick Cavendish, 1882 in the Phoenix Park.
