United Nations Support Mission in Libya

The United Nations Support Mission in Libya ( German support the United Nations Mission in Libya, UNSMIL ) is a United Nations political mission, it is based on UN Resolution 2009 of 16 September 2011.

Organization

It is under the Department of Political Affairs and headed by a Special Representative of the UN Secretary General. From 2011 to 2012 this was the Briton Ian Martin. He was replaced by the Lebanese, Tarek Mitri, his deputy is the Finnish diplomat Georg Charpentier. Its headquarters is Tripoli, with offices in Benghazi and Sebha. Its mandate was last extended by UN resolution 2095 to 2014. In January 2013, it had 205 employees.

Tasks

Your task is to assist the Libyan authorities to build a constitutional state and the organization of elections and a constitutional government. The rights of women and minorities should be protected. Furthermore, it should the illegal distribution of weapons, particularly ground-based air defense missiles prevent, protect the Libyan borders, assisitieren in the removal of landmines and promote the reintegration of combatants into society.
