United States Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs

The United States Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs is a standing committee of the U.S. Senate.

The Committee is responsible for monitoring the work of the Ministry of Internal Security ( Department of Homeland Security) and the functioning of government itself. These include the National Archives, the budget, provided it does not involve investments ( Appropriations ) is that censuses, the employees of the federal government, the District of Columbia and the United States Postal Service.

History

The Committee was originally established to make the internal work of the Intergovernmental better for the Senate and monitored to give the Senate the opportunity to investigate eventual misconduct efficiently. With the establishment of the Department of Homeland Security this task was added in 2005.

Is chaired by Democratic Senator Tom Carper of Delaware; Ranking Minority Member is Republican Tom Coburn of Oklahoma.

Subcommittees

There are six sub-committees, the Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations has existed since 1952. The Subcommittee called changing frequently, but works only sporadically. Since he has a broad mandate and full rights to investigate the government and government institutions, he was always a valuable tool in the hands of individual Chairman: who was best known Joseph McCarthy, who conducted his research within this committee. The current chairman is Democrat Carl Levin, Ranking Minority Member Tom Coburn.
