Univers Zero

Univers Zéro is a Belgian rock -in - opposition - band, which is characterized by its dark style and influences of the chamber music of the 20th century.

Band History

It was founded in 1974 by drummer Daniel Denis and was a founding member of the European musicians Rock In Opposition movement, whose aim was to build a network for the dissemination of sophisticated music as a counterpoint to the then dominant disco and punk music. Roger was one of the founders Trigaux, who left the band after the second album Heresie and then founded his band Present.

Univers Zéro dissolved in 1987, but it was 1999 at a reunion provided. In the meantime, drummer Daniel Denis had released two solo albums and Art Zoyd connected, a similarly gloomy band from France. Since 1999, there were three more studio releases, which are circumscribed by the followers as less threatening and, although it initially looked forward to the shorter lengths of pieces with skepticism, were still very well received.

September 20, 2009 Present and Univers Zéro stood for the first time together on stage during the Rock In Opposition Festival at the Maison de la Musique de Cap Découverte Le Garric in France, which was co-organized by Roger Trigaux. Two years later, in the same place, the three Belgian group Univers Zéro, Present and Aranis united to the 17- member band called Once Upon a Time in Belgium.

Style

In addition to influences of Béla Bartók and Igor Stravinsky, the group is also called lesser-known composers such as the Belgians Albert Huybrechts as inspiration.

The publications in the 1980s were characterized by instruments such as oboe, harpsichord, harmonium, and Mellotron, which marked the recognition of the band. Later, synthesizers and electric guitars were in the foreground. The style determines complexity remained faithful to this, however.
