University College Cork

University College Cork ( UCC abbreviated, Irish Coláiste na hOllscoile Cork ) is a university in the city of Cork in Ireland. The college is part of the National University of Ireland.

The UCC was founded in 1845 by Queen Victoria as Queen's College (along with Queen's University Belfast and Queen 's College Galway, now NUI Galway ), making it (along with the above mentioned universities ) to Trinity College, Dublin, the second oldest university in Ireland. 1908, the UCC was raised in the Irish Universities Act to university. In 1997 it was part of the National University of Ireland.

The campus of UCC is located at the southern channel of the River Lee, to the point where in the Middle Ages which was founded by Saint Finbarr Monastery ( Gill Abbey ) and his school stood; therefore the motto of the University "where Finbarr taught, let Munster learn" is ( dt where Finbarr taught, let Munster learn. )

Currently, approximately 17 000 students are enrolled, of which about 2400 from abroad.
