Untervaz (Romansh Vaz sut? / I ) is a municipality in the district, five villages, District Landquart the canton of Graubünden in Switzerland.

Geography

Untervaz lies at the output of the ravine Valcosenz 8 km north of Chur on the Rhine at the foot of the Calanda. The municipal area stretches from the Rhine to the ridge of the mountain range, where the heap Calanda ( 2'806 m ) marks the highest point. In addition to the village itself comprises a number of mountain pastures at Calanda.

In 1997, 40.0 % of the municipality were used for agriculture, mostly as pasture. The forest took a 46.9 %, the settlements 4.8 %. As unproductive were 8.2 %.

Neighboring communities are land Quart, Zizers, Trimmis, Haldenstein and Ragaz in canton St. Gallen.

The ibex as a coat of arms of the house of God covenant was added as an individual feature of the rust, the attribute of the church's patron St. Lawrence.

History

Uaze is documented in the year 768. In the late Middle Ages the village belonged to the episcopal rule Alt- Aspermont, since 1519 the high court four villages of the church covenant. Until 1572 the Untervazer had all feudal rights replaced by cash payment. 1577 also acquired the 2 km southeast of the village on a rocky spur over the Rhine located Neuburg. West of the village, in Cosenztobel, the ruins of the castle Rappenstein from the 13th century. Since the 17th century both denominations are represented in the community.

In the second half of the 20th century, the place of the small farming village walked to church with industry, commerce and trade. In agriculture and forestry 77 persons were employed in the commercial sector and the services sector 280 222 (as of 2000-01 ). Largest industrial enterprise is the Holcim Group cement works belonging. In Untervaz there is a base of the Swiss Air Rescue.

Traffic

Ans network of public transport, the municipality is connected with the bus route to Chur 3 and the ( side of the Rhine located on Trimmiser ground ) station of the Rhaetian Railway.
