Ursy

Ursy is a municipality in the district of the canton of Fribourg Glane in Switzerland. With effect from 1 January 2001, the previously independent municipalities Bionnens, Mossel and Vauderens were merged with the municipality Ursy and January 1, 2012 Esmonts, Vuarmarens and Morlens were incorporated to Ursy.

Geography

Ursy is located on 704 m above sea level. M., 9 km southwest of the district town Romont and 5 km south-east of Moudon ( straight line ). The village is on a plateau east of the upper course of the Broye, at the southwest foot of the Signal d' Esmonts, in the south-western Fribourg country.

The area of ​​14.9 km ² municipal area comprises a portion of Molassehügellandes of Fribourg Mittelland. The area extends from the plateau of Ursy, which is in the north of the Bois du Mont limited ( to 823 m above sea level. M. ) on the Signal d' Esmonts, eastward across the slope of Vauderens to the adjacent Molassehöhen Le Meylan (866 m ü. M. ) and La Crêta (872 m above sea level. M. ). Population

With 2564 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012) Ursy belongs to the medium-sized municipalities in the canton of Fribourg. Of the 91.5 % inhabitants are French-speaking, 3.3 % and 2.3 % speak Albanian portugiesischsprachig (as of 2000). The population of Ursy amounted in 1900 to 1140 inhabitants (including the now incorporated villages ). Throughout the 20th century, she commuted 1000-1200 people. Only since about 1980 (1199 inhabitants) a significant population growth was recorded (especially Ursy, Vauderens and Vuarmarens ).

Economy

Ursy was until the mid-20th century, a predominantly shaped by the agriculture community. Even today, the dairy industry, animal husbandry and agriculture have a certain role in the occupational structure of the population. Since the 1950s a number of small and medium-sized enterprises have settled in Ursy, which significantly changed the economic structure of the community. The most important operation in Ursy today Mifroma SA. It was founded in 1964, operates a cheese cellar for the finishing of Gruyere cheese and today is the retail company Migros connected. In other construction companies, the food industry, the organ building, mechanical workshops and architectural firms are represented in the community. In recent decades, the village has developed thanks to its attractive location and into a residential community. Many workers are therefore commuters who work mainly in the regions Moudon and Oron- la -Ville.

Traffic

The community is conveniently technically quite well developed. It lies on the main road from Romont to Moudon. By Bus Transports Publics Fribourgeois, which runs from Romont via Ursy and Oron- la- Ville Palézieux- Gare, Ursy is connected to the public transport network. History

The first written mention of the village was carried out in 1160 under the name Ursei. Later, the names Urseio ( 1190 ), Ursez ( 1215) and Ursi ( 1235 ) published. The name goes back to the Gallo-Roman personal name Ursius.

Ursy belonged in the Middle Ages to the rule Rue and arrived mid-13th century under the suzerainty of the Counts of Savoy. When the Bernese 1536 Vaud conquered, the village came under the rule of Freiburg and the Bailiwick Rue has been assigned. After the collapse of the ancien régime (1798 ) was one Ursy during the Helvetic Republic and the subsequent time to the district Rue and was incorporated in 1848 in the District Glane.

As part of the canton of Fribourg funded since 2000 municipal mergers, the previously independent municipalities Bionnens, Vauderens and Mossel were amalgamated with effect on 1 January 2001 after Ursy.

Attractions

The parish church of Ursy was built in 1859. It is the main church of the parish Ursy - Morlens.
