USS Independence ( LCS- 2) is a Littoral Combat Ship the United States Navy, is named after her Independence - class to. It is the design of the General Dynamics consortium, in competition with the Lockheed Martin -designed Freedom class. He is considered the largest trimaran in the world.

History

The contract for the construction of Independence was Alabama awarded on 14 October 2005 at Austal USA in Mobile,.
