The USS Mississippi ( SSN -782 ) is a nuclear submarine of the United States Navy. It belongs to the Virginia class and was named after the U.S. state of Mississippi.

History

SSN -782 was commissioned in 2004 and placed in June 2010 at Electric Boat in Kiel. In October 2011, the dry dock was flooded and the Mississippi left so that the stack. The baptism took place December 3, 2011, was godmother Allison Stiller, Deputy Assistant Secretary in the Department of the Navy, in charge of shipbuilding. In May 2012, the U.S. Navy took off the submarine, one year ahead of schedule and under budget.

The commissioning took place in Pascagoula, Mississippi on June 2, 2012.
