The USS Missouri ( SSN -780 ) is a nuclear submarine of the United States Navy. It belongs to the Virginia class and was named after the U.S. state of Missouri.

History

SSN -780 was given in 2003 in order and placed in September 2008 at Electric Boat in Kiel. After 14 months of construction, the building dock was flooded on 20 November 2009 and thus left the Missouri from the stack. On December 5, then was the ship's christening. Godmother was Becky Gates, wife of Secretary of Defense Robert Gates. The commissioning took place in Groton, Connecticut on 31 July 2010.
