The USS Sample (FF -1048 ) was a frigate of the Garcia class of the United States Navy. It was named after Rear Admiral William Sample.

History

U.S. Navy

The keel laying of the sample was held at the shipyard of the Puget Sound Bridge and Dry Dock Co. of Lockheed Shipbuilding and Construction Company of Seattle on July 19, 1963. The Stapelleauf took place on 28 April 1964, the launching ceremony was performed by Rear Admiral Samples daughter. Went into service on 23 March 1968 under the command of Commander Ronald T. Kelly.

After all tests were completed, the sample was transferred to Pearl Harbor where she arrived on 18 October 1968, the same day on the USS O'Bannon (DD -450) was damaged. The subsequent repair lasted until 21 January 1969 before she returned to Hawaii. Sample of the 7th Pacific Fleet of the U.S. Navy was assigned. She ran patrols in the Sea of ​​Japan, off the coast of the Philippines and Korea before it was reassigned on 18 October to the 1st Pacific Fleet and on December 12, 1969 broke in again at Pearl Harbour.

The time until 1971 spent the sample in local waters around Hawaii, which also upgrades were carried out in dry dock at Pearl Harbor during this period. In January 1972, she was transferred to the Western Pacific, where it was used in the search and rescue service, and in the air traffic control ( Positive Identification RADAR Advisory Zone) and artillery support made ​​off the Vietnamese coast. On August 25, she returned to Pearl Harbor. There she was, with the exception of one Maneuvers ( COMUTEX 4-27 ) from 4 to 8 December to mid-May 1973 at the harbor. On 13 May 1973, she ran again toward the western Pacific, before returning in May 1974 to Pearl and then not expired.

Brazilian Navy

The sample was leased on 15 April 1989, the Brazilian Navy, where she (D -29) was put into service under the name of Paraná. On January 15, 2001, she was stricken from the Naval Vessel Register of the U.S. Navy, after she was ultimately sold to the Brazilian Navy. In December 2004, she was sold for scrapping to Pakistan.
