Uta Pippig

Uta Pippig ( born September 7, 1965 in Leipzig) is a former German long-distance runner, who had their greatest success at the marathon distance.

Career

She grew up in East Germany and coached at Friedrich Janke. In 1986 and 1987 she was the GDR champion in the marathon by their victories at the Leipzig Marathon.

In 1990 she won the Berlin Marathon. 1992 began an amazing series of wins: After another victory in Berlin in 1993, she won the New York City Marathon in 1994 and 1995, the Boston Marathon, the same year the Berlin Marathon again, and spring it back to Boston. The serial crack only at the Marathon of the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta, where she was forced to retire.

Your marathon best she ran in 1994 with 2:21:45 hours in Boston. It was the fastest until then ever spilled from a German time. Because of the special conditions of the marathon course in Boston (large net gradient, start and destination are not the same place ) it but could not be recognized as an official record. Uta Pippig remained in the following 14 years, the unofficial German record holder until Mikitenko was faster with a time of 2:19:19 h (Berlin- Marathon, September 28, 2008).

1998 at a time outside of the competition held doping control too high testosterone / epitestosterone ratio was determined. The DLV then tried to lock Uta Pippig for two years. Against this was going on legally, as she took a contraceptive and, among others, was suffering from a chronic inflammation in the gastrointestinal tract, which had not been considered in the evaluation of the results.

The dispute ended with a settlement in which the DLV took back the lock and any reference to a doping violation.

2002 Pippig retired from competitive sports. She had a competition weight of 55 kg at a height of 1.67 m.

Personal

Pippig has additionally accepted for German and American citizenship and lives in the USA. There she uses her popularity to support charitable projects, such as the Dana -Farber Cancer Institute in Boston.

On 20 November 2006, Uta Pippig president of the company Take The Magic Step, LLC (located in Boca Raton, Florida). The company was founded to spread Uta Pippig health and fitness program Take The Magic Step.
