Úterý

Úterý ( German Neumarkt ) is a small town in the Czech Republic. It is located 23 km east of Marienbad in Teplá Highlands and belongs to Okres Plzeň- sever.

Geography

The city is located in the V-shaped valley of the Úterský creek that is crossed at this point from the state road 210 between Teplá and Krsy. West of Úterý is the triangle of Okres Plzeň -sever with the Okres Tachov and, since the district change the city Teplá of Okres Cheb.

Neighboring towns are Vidžín in the north, Světec in the northeast, and Olešovice Kamýček, Krsy and Blažim to the southeast, and Bezdruzice Křivce in the southwest and Stare Saddleback in the West.

History

The first mention of Úterý dates from the 1233. At this time the village belonged to the monastery Tepl and was a center of gold mining. Along the creek placer gold were operated. Through the Thirty Years War and the decline of mining, the city lost that once had over 1000 inhabitants, in importance. 1834 834 people lived in Neumarkt.

After the Second World War, the German inhabitants were expelled and settled Wolhynientschechen. The place of the name Úterý (Tuesday ) received after the previous market day, could not compensate for the loss of population, and in 1949 the city rights have been denied. After the Velvet Revolution, the rehabilitation of the post-1945 badly neglected valuable historic structure began in 1992 and the site was declared an urban conservation area. Since that time, in Úterý, which had only 369 inhabitants in 1991, experienced a strong population increase. Since 27 January 2007 Úterý is a city again.
