Váhovce

Váhovce ( until 1927 slovak " Vágovce "; Hungarian Vága ) is a city and a municipality in western Slovakia, with 2080 inhabitants ( 31 December 2011) and is located in Okres Galanta, kraj a circle of Trnavský.

The majority of the local population in Hungary, followed by a Slovak minority.

Geography

Váhovce is located in the Slovak Danube lowland, more precisely in the Danube hills on the right bank of the Waag, here stored in the reservoir Kráľová. The center is located five kilometers from Sered, nine kilometers from Galanta and 22 km from Trnava.

History

The town was first mentioned in 1259 as Vaga in writing. It belonged since the early 14th century to the estate of the Archdiocese of Gran ( Esztergom ) and remained so until the abolition of serfdom in the Kingdom of Hungary. At the same time, first mills are mentioned. During the Turkish wars, the town was almost completely destroyed. In 1869, he had 1,644 inhabitants.

After 1918, the in- county Pressburg place came to Czechoslovakia. On the basis of the First Vienna Award 1938-45 he was again part of Hungary.
