Vailly (Haute-Savoie)

VAILLY is a commune in the French department of Haute- Savoie department in the Rhône-Alpes region.

Geography

VAILLY is located on 789 m above sea level, 9 km south-southeast of the town of Thonon -les- Bains ( straight line ). The village is located in the central Chablais, in the Vallée du Brevon, at the lower southeast slope of Mont d' Hermone, in the northern Savoy Alps.

The area of ​​18.89 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the Vallée du Brevon. The Brevon, a left tributary of the Dranse, the area from the south crosses to the north in an open valley; only below Vailly it sinks deep into the environment. In the valley flows from the southwest of Follaz. To the northwest the municipality area extends to the densely wooded ridge of Mont d' Hermone ( 1412 m). East of Brevon, the area extends to the ridge that separates the Vallée du Brevon from the Vallée d' Aulps. Here are the craggy limestone peaks of Grande Pointe des Journées ( 1725 m), Mont Billiat ( with 1894 m the highest peak of VAILLY ) and Grande Chaux (1793 m).

Neighboring communities of VAILLY are Lyaud and Reyvroz in the north, La Vernaz and La Baume in the east, the south and Bellevaux Lullin and Orcier in the West.

Population

With 861 inhabitants ( 1 January 2011) VAILLY one of the small towns in the Haute-Savoie region. After the population had decreased markedly during the first half of the 20th century (1901 counted 1,209 residents VAILLY yet ), only small variations in the population were recorded since the 1970s.

Economy and infrastructure

VAILLY was until well into the 20th century a predominantly coined by farming village. Today there are various businesses of the local small business sector. Many working population commuters who engage in the larger towns in the area, especially in Thonon -les- Bains, their work.

The village is located off the major thoroughfares, but is of Thonon -les- Bains on the D26, which leads to Saint -Jeoire, relatively easily accessible. Further road links exist with Lullin and La Vernaz.
