Vaino Vahing

Vaino Vahing (* February 15, 1940 in the village Aravu, rural community Meeksi, Estonia, † March 23, 2008 in Tartu, Estonia ) was an Estonian writer and psychiatrist.

Life and work

Vaino Vahing graduated in 1961 graduated from the Medical Faculty of the State University of Tartu (Estonian Tartu Riiklik Ülikool ) from. In 1971 he received his doctorate in medicine for a candidate of science. From 1963 to 1965 Vahin worked in a hospital in Jämejala and from 1967 at a clinic in Tartu. From 1975 to 1981 he taught at the State University of Tartu as a lecturer. Vahing was represented in numerous criminal cases as a forensic psychiatrist. Vahing (among others) was awarded in 1975 Interstate price of the Estonian SSR.

Vaino Vahing has become a larger audience primarily known as a novelist and playwright. In his works Vahings psychoanalytic background plays a major role. The man is in his behavior affected by the influences of the subconscious.

From 1973 Vahing belonged to the Estonian Writers' Union. In 1975, the State Prize of the Estonian SSR and 1982 peace Bert Tuglas Prize he was awarded. In 1991 he received the annual prize culture and 1996, the Culture Prize of the Republic of Estonia.

Private life

Vaino Vahing was married to the writer Maimu mountain and after the divorce with the actress and singer Heli Vahing. His daughter from his first marriage is the lawyer Julia Laffranque, which is now a judge at the Estonian State Court ( Riigikohus ).
