Valentin Inzko

Valentin Inzko [ jun. ] ( May 22nd, 1949 in Sveče / Suetschach, Carinthia ) is an Austrian diplomat. Since March 26, 2009 he is the High Representative for Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Life

His father was of Slavic and school inspector Valentin Inzko sen. ( 1923-2002 ). Meanwhile managerial position in the Council of Slovenes in Carinthia and in the Krščanska Kulturna zveza ( Christian Cultural Association ) also coined the son.

From 1955 to 1959 Valentin Inzko attended bilingual primary school in Suetschach ( Sveče ) im Rosental ( Rož ). After that, he was until 1967 the Federal High School for Slovenes in Klagenfurt ( Celovec ).

In 1967 he began the study of law as well as Serbo-Croatian and Russian at the University of Graz. In 1972 he earned his juris doctorate. After he graduated from the Diplomatic Academy in Vienna.

From 1974 to 1978 he was deputy head of the UNDP office in Ulan Bator. He then spent four years as deputy head of the UNDP office in Colombo.

In 1981, he joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Vienna, Policy Section, Department of Central, Eastern and South-Eastern Europe, Central Asia and South Caucasus, a.

From 1982 to 1986 he was at the Austrian Embassy in Belgrade as press and cultural attaché. He then spent three years in the Austrian Mission to the United Nations in New York Counsellor, Austrian delegate to the First Commission and Deputy Chairman of the UN Disarmament Commission. From 1989 to 1990 he served as deputy head of the Department of Press and Information at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Vienna.

From October to December 1992, he was Head of the OSCE Mission in Sanjak of Novi Pazar.

Valentin Inzko was 1990-1996 Cultural Council of the Austrian Embassy in Prague and since January 1, 1993 Founding Director of the Austrian Cultural Institute in Prague. After that, he was until 1999 the Austrian ambassador in Sarajevo, where he opened the message and built.

From 1995 to 2005 he was in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Vienna Head of Department of Central, Eastern and South-Eastern Europe, Central Asia and South Caucasus.

From 2005 to 2009, Valentin Inzko Austrian Ambassador to the Republic of Slovenia. In June 2010 he was elected Chairman of the Council of Carinthian Slovenes.

High Representative for Bosnia

2009 Inzko returned to Bosnia, this time as High Representative for Bosnia and Herzegovina. He is by Wolfgang Petrich of the second Austrian in this function. Between 2009 and 2011 he served so well the post of EU Special Representative for Bosnia - Herzegovina.

He applied with the hope of the underdog and was nominated overwhelmingly for this post. Only the United States placed a veto, since they favored the candidate of the NATO country UK, Emyr Jones Perry. They wanted to roll up about the new method, but ultimately agreed to the appointment Inzko.

Inzko is fluent in Serbo-Croatian, and Russian, Slovenian, Czech, English, French and German. He was the first Austrian Ambassador to Bosnia - Herzegovina. He was appointed by President Alija Izetbegovic an honorary citizen of Sarajevo.
