Varujan Vosganian

Varujan Vosganian ( born July 25, 1958 in Craiova ) is a Romanian economist, politician, essayist and poet of Armenian descent.

Life

Varujan Vosganians Armenian ancestors were among the survivors of the Ottoman genocide of the Armenians. He attended school in Focsani and studied until 1982 Economics at the Academy of Economic Studies Bucharest until 1991 Mathematics at the University of Bucharest, who holds a doctorate in economics from it in 1998.

Vosganian was from 1990-1992 and from 1992-1996 a member of the Romanian Chamber of Deputies, and from 1996 to 2000 and since 2004 a member of the Romanian Senate. Vosganian represents neoliberal positions.

From 1996 to 2003 he led the neoliberal party " Uniunea Forţelor de Dreapta ", which then merged with the right-wing liberal Partidul Naţional Liberal. In 2006, he withdrew his candidacy as Romanian representative in the European Commission on the grounds that allegations that he had an inadequate European profile is to intimately linked with multinational companies or he had been a Securitate informer, although unfounded, but he would not hurt by a potentially prolonged examination of his candidacy the Romanian state. Vosganian was from 2007 to 2008 Minister of Economy in the Tăriceanu government. The end of 2012 he was re-appointed as Minister of Trade and Industry in the Cabinet Ponta.

Vosganian has several books on economic and political issues published and he also writes poetry and novels also. He is a member of the Uniunea Scriitorilor din România, in which he holds the office of Vice-President since 2005. He is president of the Association of Armenians in Romania. His 2009 published novel told from the perspective of a family chronicle of the genocide of the Armenians is in 2013 also appeared in a German translation under the title Book of whispering.
