Vauchoux

Vauchoux is a commune in Haute -Saône in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Vauchoux situated at an altitude of 212 m above sea level, 3 km south-southwest of Port- sur -Saône and about 10 km west-northwest of Vesoul (air line). The village is located in the central part of the department, on the eastern edge of the Saôneniederung, at the entrance of Scyotte in the Saône Valley.

The area of ​​4.64 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the middle Saône Valley. The western border is always along the Saône, which draws an arc to the south -reaching here. The Alluvialniederung the Saône is on average 208 m and has a width of about two kilometers wide. The river is expanded to the waterway.

From the river, the municipality's area extends eastward across the alluvial plain in the valley of the Scyotte, which flows near the village in the Saône. This valley is flanked on both sides of the plateau-like hills, which consist of an alternation of calcareous and sandy- marly sediments of the upper Jurassic period. North of the Scyotte is the vast forest area of the Bois du Marquis, in the 262 m, the highest elevation of Vauchoux is achieved. To the south of the municipality of soil ranges on the height of the French l' Oison (251 m) and with a narrow strip down to the valley of the Durgeon. The fertile soils of the valley and the French l' Oison are mainly used for agricultural purposes.

Neighboring communities of Vauchoux are Port-sur -Saône in the north, Scye in the east, Montigny- lès- Vesoul and Pontcey in the south and Chemilly and Ferrieres -les- Scey in the West.

History

Grave finds near the present cemetery indicate a very early settlement of the area. In the Middle Ages Vauchoux belonged to the Free County of Burgundy and in the territory of the Bailliage d' amont. The local government had initially the masters of Traves, and later those of Scey held. Together with the Franche -Comté Vauchoux came with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 definitively to France. Under the reign of the noble family of the residents were awarded in 1788 Bauffremont liberties. Today Vauchoux is a member of the 16- villages municipal association Communauté de communes de la Saône jolie.

Attractions

The church of Saint -Léger was built in 1848 and offers a remarkable picture of the Madonna. In the cemetery there is a cross, which is dated 1606. Additional area attractions include the castle, which now houses a restaurant and is surrounded by a large park, and the Lavoir (former wash house and livestock watering ) of 1895.

Population

With 126 inhabitants ( 1 January 2011) Vauchoux one of the smallest municipalities in the department of Haute- Saône. Throughout the 20th century, the population fluctuated in the range of 108-160 people.

Economy and infrastructure

Vauchoux was until well into the 20th century a predominantly by agriculture (crops, orchards and livestock ) and forestry embossed village. Today, there are some establishments of local small businesses, including one company in the packaging industry. In recent decades the village has been transformed into a residential community. Many workers are therefore commuters who engage in the larger towns in the area, particularly in the area Vesoul, their work.

The village is situated away from the larger passage axes on a secondary road that leads from Port-sur- Saône to Pontcey. Another road connection with Scye.
